What counts as a door ding
A round or oval dent, roughly palm sized or smaller, usually along the crease line at door handle height where another door swung into yours. Shopping cart hits, a stray ball, a hail stone, a knee against a fender. The common thread is that the paint is unbroken.
How it is repaired
Access comes first. Depending on the panel that can mean going in behind the door card, through a window channel, past a brace, or working the outside of the panel with glue tabs where there is no way in. From there the metal is worked back up in small increments, read against a striped reflection board, and finished so the line across the panel runs straight again.

How long does a door ding take?
Most are 45 minutes to two hours from arrival to finish, including setting up lighting and getting access to the back of the panel.

What if the paint is chipped in the middle of the ding?
Then it is not a clean paintless repair. The dent can often still be brought back close to flat, but the chip itself needs touch-up or refinishing, and you will be told that up front rather than after.
